Parents Arrested For Getting High In Front Of Kids

Dallas police removed four children from a Dallas motel room Wednesday after their parents were found high on paint thinner.

Police say the fumes inside the room at the Budget Suites of America were so intense that even the kids looked like they were intoxicated.

The family was living at the motel in the 9500 block Forest Lane for some time.

"I walked on my sister one too many times," says Mary Barron.

Mary sayd she had stopped by her younger sister's motel room on Tuesday for a visit.

She says she could smell chemicals all the way in the hallway and was forced to call police.

"I didn't want to do it," she said.  "I did it because I loved my sister and cared about what my nephews were going to be going through."

Vanessa Barron, 21, and Eugenio Rocha, 29, were arrested and accused of sniffing paint thinner around their four kids.

They face children endangerment charges.

"They inhaled 'tolley' and popped xanax," says Mary.

Police say "tolley" is slang for toluene, an ingredient in paint thinner.  It is commonly abused as an inhalant.

Police say Rocha told them he had the day off and admitted to getting high by sniffing the chemical, which he had poured into a soda bottle.

At the time, investigators say the couple's infant, 3-year-old, 5-year-old and 9-year-old were also in the room.

"The officers were concerned because the kids had bloodshot, glassy eyes and they were sluggish," said Senior
Corporal Kevin Janse with the Dallas Police Department.

The four children were rushed to Children's Medical Center in Dallas.

They were checked and released.

Mary just hopes her younger sister changes her life after this arrest.

"For me to know that my sister will never be the same towards me, because I know she will be very upset," explains Mary.

The four kids were placed with other family members.

Child Protective Services says typically in these types of cases they turn the kids over to family members who have undergone extensive background checks.
